Hello:

ARe you trying to look into the matter of which constructs one
would use as he/she moves toward a decision to smoke or not to smoke.

If you are looking into that kind of practice you might be
interested in the work of James Jaccard. He has done a long series
of studies involving decisions about use of contraceptives and has
used "grid like" approaches.
If this approach matches yours, you might find it useful to
look at his chapter in Mancuso and Shaw (Eds.) COGNITION AND PERSONAL
STRUCTURE; Praeger Press, 1988 -- "Idiothetic methods for he analysis of
behavioral decision making."

Good hunting!!
