As in all mythical tales, we must consider the possibility that this
tale about grids was invented to serve a particular social construction
purpose.
If it proves to be the case that we are unable to track down this
putative statement by G. Kelly, perhaps we can explore the origins of the tale
by speculating on the purposes that such a myth might serve.
Let's not offer those speculations, however, until we have completed a
rather thorough search.
