rather ironic.  I just noticed when I opened the URL, above,
that NCSA httpd returns directory listings in this format!
(i'm sure it always has, but i never noticed.)

I'm surprised to read this.  I've been reading and writing HTML for quite
some time now and was never aware of this distinction.  Is this pie in
the sky or just poorly documented.
