Neat idea! I suggest a refinement to select a rectangle from an image:

<IMG SRC="image-file#x,y,width,height">


<IMG SRC="chemistry-font.gif#100,0,15,6">

Perhaps it's wise to use named, rather than positional, parameters, so
that somebody could pass font metric data too:
