Task Six: Configuring Options

This section will cover only a few items that can be customized including, if available:

Netscape 9

Netscape is fairly easily configurable. The loading of images can be turned on or off at the user's discretion. Once a page is loaded without pictures, the user can press the 'load images' button to retrieve the images, or can load the images individually by clicking on them with the right mouse button.

Fonts are configurable as far as the operating system permits. Any font can be chosen.

The links can be underlined or not, and the user also has the option to display the URL of the link touched by the mouse pointer on the bottom line of the screen. This lets the user make a decision more easily as to whether he wishes to follow that link.

Mosaic 8

Mosaic is again fairly similar to Netscape. The only difference is that the interface for configuration is not as intuitive as the Netscape one. It does, however, seem to contain all the same functionality.

Lynx 3

Lynx is not configurable as far as interface is concerned. This is not really much of a shortcoming when you consider that there are not that many ways to display a plain-text HTML document.

OmniWeb 8

Image loading can be turned off from the menu in a manner similar to Netscape. Desired images can subsequently be loaded by clicking on the desired placeholder icons.

The fonts used are taken from the user's preferences setup for application font. So, to change the font, the user goes to preferences.app and makes the necessary changes.

The user also has control over the display style of the hypertext links. These links can be displayed in any color, and underlined or not.

The Winner Is:
