David, your collegue may be interested in Jack Adams-Webber's work on
the development of use of similarity and contrast in constructs for
children.
The formal reference is:

Adams-Webber, J. (1985) Self-other contrast and the development of

Frans Epting also wrote an article regarding children's personal
constructs in the first issue of IJPCP (I think), maybe somebody can
confirm this for me.
