Bob
Having read some of the emails in reply to your discussion on midpoints; =
I am left wondering in what contect you are using grids and midpoints. =
If you are using the grid as an aid in psychotherapy you might be =
tempted to ask the client what the meaning of the rating is. Perhaps you =
would be interested if the midpoint was being used quite frequebtly; =
this could lead to questions about the range of convenience of the =
particular construct or concept being used to hang a construct on. In a =
workshop facilitated by Peter Goold I was interested in his discussion =
about Fuzzy Logic (Bart Kosko). In this context you could elicit =
verbalised (or others), bipolar constructs but instead of using an =
interval scale between each pole; ask the rater to rate each pole =
independently. this then leaves no midpoint. However, we do not always =
find that the sum of the ratings is =3Dto the highest point on the =
scale.
Good Luck
