It's a little worse than that even: SGML '95 is the week before, and in
Boston too. So if you aren't going to the IETF meeting, but thought you
would attend SGML '95 ...

We tried very hard to find other places and other times but it is
surprisingly rare to find an accessible hotel with availability at
the dates one wants. We checked as far from Boston as DC, but no
further (since W3O is a co-sponsor and will be acting as the "local
sponsor" of the event), but major conferences really need to book
space a couple of years in advance.
And two years ago it would have been very hard to predict the amount
of space needed in Dec 95 for a WWW conference. In fact, I think it's
still hard to predict how many people will show up for this one.
Note to Stu: I recognize this is not strictly speaking the topic of
this list, but the question was raised ...
