Introduction to CSO Inventory System

After having reviewed your proposal of the supermarket inventory system,CSO wishes to inform 10th Level Solutions that we are pleased with the results thus far. We have taken the liberty of adding general comments throughout your specifications, dealing with minor issues that we felt needed more clarity. Most of our concerns have been consolidated in the security section, which can be found on the Functional Specificaton pages.

Project summary

The CSO Inventory System is a software package specifically designed for use in a supermarket chain, and their central warehouse. The general goal of this development project will be to create a system which simplifies some of the major operation of a supermarket, namely inventory management.

What will it do?

The CSO Inventory System will maintain several databases used to assist management in keeping track of inventory in the store, ordering inventory, recording all transactions, and maintaining the security of the information.

Who will use it?

The system will be used by all staff members whose responsibilities involve any changes to the inventory.

What needs will it satisfy?

By eliminating much of the work involved in manually maintaining the inventory, the CSO Inventory System will help reduce management expenses. This savings can in turn be transfered to the customer, giving the company a competitive edge.

How will it help the users?

The system will take over most of the tasks that were previously performed manually. For example, ordering of produce, automatic inventory reduction, and generally recording all inventory transactions, will all be performed by the system on an ongoing basis.

Imortant features of the CSO Inventory System:

Some of the important features include:
User friendly environment
Authorization based on employee's position
Record keeping of all changes to the inventory
Record keeping of system usage
Management of employee records
Automatic inventory reduction at point of sale
Automatic ordering of needed inventory

What hardware will this system use?

The final system product would require a network of computers, terminals, and cash registers, capable of supporting a distributed database, and timesharing.

Performance goals:

This system will be reliable, in that it will recover from erroneous input, and any internal errors, thus guaranteeing that information will not be lost. This system will not allow unathorized personel to gain access to privileged information, and tasks.
