• a groupware system developed by Doug Engelbart in the late 1960's

• had capabilities touching four aspects of groupware
  1. Same time/Same place
     • supported group work in a team room
     • the modulator had a full workstation and each of the participants had a mouse and screen
       

  2. Same time/Different place
     • supported screen sharing and remote mulitmedia

  3. Different time/Same place
     • users can use the system while other group members were not present
       

  4. Different time/Different place
     • supported shared journals and group writing

  The broad vision of the system is now becoming practical.
