Virtual Reality

A primer and overview by Kelly Askew and Cory King

One could perhaps describe Virtual Reality as the ultimate culmination of display and interface technology. Think of how much easier it is be to make a little note and stick it to your desk than to use an electronic organizer. Virtual reality could allow your organizer to have a sticky-note type interface where you just look at the part of your desk for the right note.

The implications of VR are both varied and far-reaching. They range from relatively simple things such as virtual games to multi-million dollar applications such as the most advanced military flight simulators. One thing that is certain is that it will have a profound effect on the way humans interact with computers.

This document will attempt to define what virtual reality is, how it can be used, and what the future might hold.
