While brevity has been quite common in the other sections of this report due to sheer inferiority of the technologies, it can be replaced in this section by a brevity due to their excellent, easy-to-use counterpart. In short, it is amazingly simple to do research on the world wide web. This is not due so much to its design or layout, but rather to the comprehensive selection of web search engines that have been developed by various organizations.
Whereas researching virtual reality was a frustrating task with the other tools, it was a pleasure in this case. Using three different search engines (Digital's Altavista, Lycos, and Yahoo), success was found at the end of each search. The greatly definable searches in altavista and Lycos allow a user to narrow down a search to just a few results. For example, the Altavista query 'virtual reality glove' returned a result that included manufacturer's releases, reviews, and discussions regarding those ubiquitous black gloves.
The main problem with the world wide web is that there are certain times when there is simply too much information found, and it becomes quite a task to find the desired data. This problem is especially apparent in cases where the search is on a common term, which could be mentioned in differing contexts on many pages. Nonetheless, when researching virtual reality, no such problems were encountered.
