Internet Access Methods con't
- MUDs (Multi-User Dimensions/Dungeons)
- MUD's originated with a fantasy board game in the 1970s known as Zork.
- A MUD is fantasy, role playing, theme game. "Dungeons and Dragons" is an example of this.
- Part of the attraction of a MUD as a opposed to the board game version of these games, is that MUDs allow multiple-users around the world to interact simultaneously. Interestingly, many corporations use MUD's to communicate live-on-line with foreign offices.
- Generally a MUD is accessed by connecting VIA telnet.
- Chat and IRC (Internet Relay Chat)
- An IRC is definitely an acquired taste. Any and all conversations are often very difficult to follow since there is an abundance of cross talk. That is, multiple people are typing to their intended reader simultaneously. While you are trying to talk to Jane, the conversations of six other people are interlaced with yours on the screen.
- Chat was once very popular. However, IRC has now almost completely replaced Chat.
