The specific Bateson reference to which I alluded (at some point) was as
follows:
Bateson, Gregory. (1979). MIND AND NATURE. NY: Dutton (page 12).
He refers to both the golden section and the fibonacci series in the
context of his general discussion of spirals.
Any paraphrase of these particular comments out of context would not be
especially edifying; however, I found the discussion as a whole very
cogent.
