Oddly, I forgot to mention a highly significant early attempt to discuss
the construction of health: Georges Canguilhem's "The Normal and the
pathological." Published in 1966, using some material from 1943 a 1991
translation is available through Zone books/MIT press with an introdution
by Foucault. It includes historical analysis of heal related concepts.
