Thanks for your comments.  By "MIME message" it means an RCC-822
message as enhanced by RFC1341, but with of ocurse the possibility of 8 bit
transmission. Something which we may want to add for this is a length
header field which MIME only allows on external, not internal, body parts.
We should sheck out the STMP 8 bit extensions which I am not sufficiently
knowledgable about.

No, base64 encodeing will not be necessary.  We have to decide
which MIME features may be sent without any permission from the client
but I imagine that all MIME encodings should be understood, but
only text/plain and text/html are required to be understood a priori.

No, I don't know of any Alex-style NFS server for http: space.
