Ari Luotenen here has basic basword protection in the libwww,
should be in the next (or next but one) release.
This has telnet-level security, he has encryption
level security coming along.

Just restrain anyone from reinventing the wheel...

The code goes into the library without any modifications
required to browser or (CERN) server code apart from linking to
the new library.
