Extra Features

Protection

Of special importance in business organizations is the need to keep the content of documents secure. MS Word provides a protection feature, allowing the user to set a variety of protection levels for a document. Through the use of a secret password, a user can enforce that others only make annotations in a document. Another option is to allow a different user to make changes, but these changes are marked by underlining the new text or highlighting it a different color. The final option is to allow other users to only enter information in form fields. These various protection options are most useful when users want others to review and edit their work without making unauthorized alterations to the document.

QuickFinder

WordPerfect has developed QuickFinder, a sophisticated file searching facility for querying file contents. This is especially useful when opening or inserting document files but being unsure of their contents. The extensive querying method allows users to search by words, match with case sensitivity or not, use Boolean expressions and search by summary information. Summary information is contained only in WordPerfect documents and is stored when a user saves a file. The user has the option to fill in this summary information about the file such as keywords, an abstract, the author, and the subject. The one drawback with respect to the summary information is that WordPerfect seems to collect it together each time it opens a directory and this makes it much slower to search normally for files. It would be more efficient if this information was only collected when the QuickFinder is being used.
