It seems to me that INS and DEL don't really necessitate separate tags
any more than <P CLASS="obsolete"> and <P CLASS="new">, the response i
saw on another thread... it just doesn't seem right that they should
stand on the same level as separate tags, like <P>, <UL>, etc.

Indeed! Hmm... and further, how many would agree that footnotes and
parenthetical remarks can be marked up with the same tag? I think i'd be
quite happy with it.
