Subject: Hostname of www server

It is becoming common practice to create aliases for hostnames which
reflect the service they provide.
Examples:
ftp anonymous ftp server
news news server
See the output of the host command:
[nikhefh] ##[1] host ftp
ftp.nikhef.nl CNAME nikhefh.nikhef.nl
nikhefh.nikhef.nl A 192.16.199.1
[nikhefh] ##[2] host news
news.nikhef.nl CNAME nikhefh.nikhef.nl
nikhefh.nikhef.nl A 192.16.199.1
[nikhefh] ##[3] host www
www.nikhef.nl CNAME nic.nikhef.nl
nic.nikhef.nl A 192.16.199.49
[nikhefh] ##[4] host news.cern.ch
news.cern.ch CNAME dxcern.cern.ch
dxcern.cern.ch A 128.141.201.96
[nikhefh] ##[5] host news.desy.de
news.desy.de CNAME dscomsa.desy.de
dscomsa.desy.de A 131.169.1.165
We propose to use the alias www.organisation.country for machines running
the www server.
This makes the replacement of machines invisible for the users.
Best regards,
