I want to know how a directory is displayed where I noticed from the
examples below that with:

gopher://athena.sdsu.edu:71/11/sounds/songs

I get this:

Select one of:

   10000_maniacs 
   README 
   UNKNOWN 
   aaron_neville 
   acdc 
   air_supply 
   alan_parsons 
   all 
   allice_in_chains 

with:

file://localhost/home/nfs/docman/sounds

I get this:

Directory /home/nfs/docman/sounds

   Up to docman 
   top_gun_theme.au 
   jetsons.au 
   james.bond.au 
   mutara.st2.au 
   stars_and_stripes_forever.au 
   Fanfare_for_th_common_man.au 
   O_Fortuna.au 
   honesty.au 

Do I have to use gopher in order to get the "Select one of:" message
line? I don't really want to use the second form where users can
go "Up to a previous directory".
