| the error reporting and logging stuff to use it will anyone be unhappy?

I'd like a local config option.  Something like

  -l /var/log/foo	# use file
  -l 6		  	# use fd 6 (for those without /dev/fd)
  -l syslog/local4	# use syslog local4
  -l mail/webmaster	# use mail to webmaster
