An interesting concept was brought up at the recent WWW BOF
at IEEE ICMCS.
Languages such as SGML and HTML describe document structure.
By design, style and rendering issues are left to the individual
viewer.
However, many people would like to have more control over the
actual rendering of the document (alignment, font size, tabbing,
highlight color, etc, etc.)
How about an HTML style sheet attachment?
That is, an author would create both an HTML document and a link
to an attached style sheet. Rendering and style data would
be placed on this sheet.
WWW clients could either
a) ignore this link
b) strictly follow the style attachment
c) use the style attachment as a default and allow the end
user to have local overides for style attributes.
(I suggest C!)
