Kelly and sociology

In his chapter on 'Dimensions of Transition' (pp.505-508) in v1, Kelly
discusses his notion of punishment and guilt. I found Kelly's discussion of
the 'evil-doer' particularly interesting. While his discussion focuses on
threat and core role construing, his discussion also appears sociologically
derived.
I may be quite wrong on this point, but does anyone know what schools of
sociology were influential in Kelly's development, or more specifically if
his discussion of punishment owes a debt to sociological theory.
Any assistance is appreciated,
regards,
Bob Green
