Well, a relatively astonishing number of leaks have been discovered 
(by purify) and plugged up in my working copy of viola. So, in the 
Next Release you should no longer need to restart your Xserver 
periodically, as much. (The X server was a victim of viola's habit 
of piling up pixmaps and fonts...).

"When's the next release?" ...I'm working on it. <fuzzylogic>This 
indefinite answer has much to do with the viola and the browser's 
indefinite number of features which are currently being, and 
considered to be, added</fuzzylogic>.

It's been a while since an update, but I think you'll like it when 
it's out. Meanwhile, there is Marc's Xmosaic, which seems very
well done!
