Null's in ncsa's logfile

Hi all,

does anyone have an answer to why there seem to be a lot of null's
in ncsa's logfile?

I noticed the problem when editing the file with vi and got the following
message:

"apa" 24707 lines, 3806181 characters (1705786 null)


When i saved the file after editing the null's went away.
The problem isn't that annoying but still it's 45% of the file size.
