This problem is best tackled with style sheets. In the meantime, I suggest
that browser developers use heuristic techniques to select the default
text color to give a proper contrast with the specified background.

For instance, VUE for X11 uses black or white text depending on the
chosen color for the window background. Simple color theory can be
used for a more sophistocated treatment.
